The Last Employer of Ben b.1824

Copyright 2018 Martin W Boling

It is documented by a newspaper obituary that Ben was a foreman at the Madison Woolen Mills of Madison Indiana in the 1880s. It was located at the corner of West St and Second St. That is just one block south of Main St in the downtown business district.

"Wool was cleaned and dyed before being sent to the carding room where carding machines typical of pioneer mills prepared the fibers for spinning. Large revolving cylinders shaped the wool into a flat web of brushed fleece similar to cotton batting. Rollers then divided it into yarn-like ropes, which were wound onto large spools. The spools were mounted on machines that extended and twisted the ropes into finished yarn. Yarns were then arranged on a reel and rewound onto loom beams."   Excerpt from the Watkins Woolen Mills web site

Ben Bio

My new posting today is a brief biography I wrote many years ago about my research into my GG-grandpa Benjamin Page Boling b.1824 - d.1885. He is buried in the Scotland Indiana cemetery. It was an interesting trek following his story.
The link at the top of this post will take you to a page where you can view the first page of a pdf file. You must download the file to view all four pages.
There are three Benjamin ancestors in our family:
Ben b.1754 had a son
Ben b.1776 had a son
Ben b.1824 subject of this biography.
Enjoy
Martin
PS: Ben's birth name was spelled "Bolin" like his father. But his tombstone reads "Boling"

Good Monday morning!
If you are related to this Ben Bolin b.1824, you may be interested in knowing there is still a old log cabin and two family cemeteries on the property once owned and farmed by Ben. Although the farm has always been associated with Jamestown, it's actually closer to Russell Springs KY.
I fear the cabin will disappear someday, but it was still standing during our last visit.

Welcome!
I have had an online presence for many years hoping to reach out to folks looking for information on my ancestor, old Ben Bolin b.1776 who lived and died in Jamestown Kentucky.
All of my previous websites have gone by the wayside as the years passed. But perhaps a blog is the next best thing for keeping the family history of Old Ben alive.
Feel free to post your interest in this family line.
